William "Butch" Sparks 1932 - 2011 EAST HOOSICK, NY William Carter "Butch" Sparks, 78, passed away after a long battle with cancer on Sunday, January 16, at the Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center. He resided on Ore Bed Road in East Hoosick with his beloved wife, Patricia Barnes Sparks. They were married on June 11, 1960. William was born on June 29, 1932 in Winchester, Mass., son of the late Charles and Harriet Carter Sparks. He graduated from Andover (Mass.) High School and attended Hudson Valley Community College, where he received a certificate in electrical wiring. William served in the Army from 1953 to 1956 as an air frame and engine mechanic. William was employed at Eveready in Bennington, Vt. as a Millwright for 25 years. He also operated the family farm "Twin Maples Farm" while being employed at Eveready. William was a volunteer driver for the Road to Recovery for American Cancer Society. He coached Little League Baseball, liked to travel and was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church in North Bennington. He was a great Dad and enjoyed time spent with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors other than his wife, Patricia, include his daughters, Kimberly Baker (James) of Arlington, VT, Mary Driscoll of Hoosick Falls, and Jennifer Nelson (Bruce) of Duanesburg; sons, William Sparks (Nicole) of Hoosick Falls and Eric Sparks of Cohoes; and sister, Betsy Hutchison of Lakewood, CO. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. William was predeceased by a sister, Jane Spoerke. FUNERAL NOTICE: Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be offered on Friday, January 21, at 11:00 a.m. from St. John the Baptist Church in North Bennington, VT. Burial will follow the mass at St John's Cemetery in North Bennington. Relatives and friends may call at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street in Hoosick Falls, NY on Thursday, January 20, from 4:00 - 7:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Karen McGovern Memorial Fund through the funeral home. The family would like to thank the staff at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center for their wonderful care.
