BENNINGTON -- Winifred B. Frantz, 86, of Burgess Road in Woodford, died Sunday morning, March 20, 2005, at Crescent Manor Nursing Home in Bennington.

She was born on New York City on Feb. 22, 1919, the daughter of Richard and Maude (Bransford) Bach, attended local schools and graduated from Barnard College, where she earned a degree in chemistry.

She moved to Vermont from Hastings on Hudson, N.Y. in 1953 to her beloved family farm, where she raised her children and her horses. She was a well-known seamstress and floral arranger and was a bridal couturiere. She was also a coppersmith and jewlery maker. She became an avid traveler at an early age as she accompanied her father around the world securing museum artifacts. She was the founder of the Bennington County Horse Show, a member for many years of the Bennington County Mounted Posse and was a member of the Bennington Garden Club. She was a communicant and Sunday school teacher at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.

She enjoyed music, birds, flowers and ballet and loved horses and cherished times spent with her family.

She is survived by two sons, Richard Frantz and his wife Nancy Coleman of Woodford and Peter Frantz and his wife Brenda of Easthampton, Mass.; two daughters, Louise Santelli and her husband Mark of Woodford and Janet Saddler and her husband Michael also of Woodford; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Franklin Frantz, who died in 1983, and her sister Eleanor Townsend, who died in 1992.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, March 26, at 10 a.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Bennington. There are no visiting hours.
