BENNINGTON -- Mrs. Yvette C. Ratelle, 85, widow of Donat J. Ratelle, a former longtime resident of Jefferson Heights and more recently of Nathaniel Court, Bennington, died peacefully in the loving care of her family on Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at her home following a brief illness.

Born in Woonsocket, R.I. on Nov. 12, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Adelard and Adele (LaPorte) Ethier. She received her education in the Woonsocket schools.

Mr. & Mrs. Ratelle were married July 12, 1938 at Precious Blood Church in Woonsocket. Mr. Ratelle died Oct. 27, 2003.

In earlier years Mr. & Mrs. Ratelle owned the Beau May Diner in Woonsocket and later the Woodford Inn and Motel in Woodford. They later purchased the former Knotty Pine Restaurant in Bennington which they renamed the Beau May Restaurant. Mrs. Ratelle’s home and family had always been her main interests.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, JoAnn and Jay Grube of Reading, Pa. and Frances and Michael Devenow of Bennington; a son and his wife, Jean “John” and Betsy Ratelle of Bennington; twelve grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Gloria Koczon of Woonsocket, R.I.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Ratelle was predeceased by two sisters and a brother, Anita Baillargeon, Clair Pickering and Gerald Ethier.

The funeral will be held from All Faiths Chapel at the Vermont Veterans Home on Friday, March 5, 2004 at 11 a. m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered by Rev. Michael A. Demasi, Chaplain.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. The Wake Service will be offered Thursday evening.

Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.
