Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- A prayer service for Yvon Matte was held on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007, at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington followed by a Mass of Resurrection at St. John the Baptist Church in North Bennington.

The Rev. James Doherty, pastor officiated the Mass of Resurrection and the Rev. Michael DeMasi concelebrated the mass. Assisting as acolyte was Mr. Merton Snow and the church’s Deacon, Mr. David O’Brien.

The pall was placed on Mr. Matte’s casket by his three children, Joan Carr, Joseph Matte and Ivan Matte. The cross of resurrection was placed on the casket by his wife, Deborah. The Old Testament scripture was read by his son, Joseph, and the New Testament was read by his daughter, Joan.

The Eucharistic gifts were brought to the altar by four of his grandchildren, Deidre Matte, Ellora Carr, Abigail Carr, and Aaron Carr.

Musical selections included “Here I Am Lord,” “How Great Thou Art,” “Ave Maria,” and “Precious Lord Take My Hand.” The organ was played by Mrs. Louise Gauthier, and the soloist was Mrs. Millie Pierce. The eulogy was offered by his son Ivan.

Pallbearers for the services were Mr. Billie Matte, Mr. Reggie Matte, Mr. David Travis, Mr. Mike Snyder, Mr. Marcel Matte, and Mr. Robbie Matte.

Honorary pallbearers, representing the “Morning Coffee Group” at St. John the Baptist, were Mr. Ernie Beron, Mr. Charles Cole, Mrs. Lorna Cole, Mrs. Theresa DeMasi, Mrs. Theresa Densmore, Mrs. Mae Fox, Mrs. Sue Harrington, Mrs. Ann Jense, Mrs. Jill Levin, Mrs. Lillian McNichol, Mr. Nick Montemarano, Mes. Elsie Montemarano, Mr. Bruce Niles, Mrs. Barbara O’Neil, and Mrs. Leona Scott.

A time of fellowship followed the mass at St. John’s Parish Hall.

Interment will take place in the Hoosick Rural Cemetery on Friday morning, Feb. 9, at 10:30 a.m.

Mr. Yvon C. Matte, 64, a resident of Hicks Avenue in Bennington, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home in Bennington.
