Obituary Condolences

Yvonne Joyce Sutton

1931 - 2014 ARLINGTON Yvonne Joyce Sutton died peacefully at home on Nov. 24, 2014. Yvonne was born in Mt. Vernon, N.Y. on Dec. 2, 1931. She was the eldest daughter of Merton Joyce and Vivenne Claire de Marmon. Yvonne graduated from Parson's School of Design in New York City in 1952. After graduation she worked in the art department at Norcross Greeting Card Company in New York City. In 1991 Yvonne moved to Arlington, VT where she worked at Fisher Elementary for over 20 years. She retired at the ripe young age of 80, in 2012. Yvonne loved many things in her life including chickadees, secret gardens, Halloween, Christmas ornaments, children's books, and stories. But above all she loved children, especially babies. Her patience with the young was inexhaustible. Her ability to empathize with the child's eye view and find humor where others found frustration were two of her special gifts. Yvonne is survived by her four children: John and his wife, Leyla of Arlington, VT; Vivienne and her husband, Robert of Poultney, VT; Henry and his wife, Linda of Oviedo FL; Matthew of Collinsville, CT; by her sister Barbara and her husband, Hartley of Chester Springs, PA; by grandchildren, Jennifer, Daniel, Heather, Connor; by cousins, John Murray of Sao Paulo, Brazil; Robert Murray of Quogue, LI; by her loving companion, Coco; by many dear friends in the Episcopal Church; dear friends around Vermont; all friends who she cherished as family; and most especially, Laurie, Louise, and David. Not least, Yvonne survives in the stories of her memories. FUNERAL NOTICE: A celebration of Yvonne's life will be held at St. James Episcopal Church in Arlington on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014 at 10 a.m. where the Burial Office with Holy Eucharist will be offered by the Rev. Scott B. Neal, Rector. If you are moved to send flowers please instead give a donation to the Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center in her memory through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201. The doctors, nurses, and staff of our local hospital are a treasure. They gave Yvonne exceptional care for many long years and she loved each and every one of them very much.
