Mildred Sourdiffe

1929 - 2014 BENNINGTON Mildred E. "Millie" Sourdiffe went home to meet her Father-God on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, following a long illness. Born in a small house on Lincoln Street in Bennington on July 15, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Viola Cross Sourdiffe. Millie attended North Bennington grade school and the old Depot School in Shaftsbury, and later earned her GED. She worked in the textile industry for many years, and retired from Eveready in 1995. A voracious reader, her personal library included a couple thousand books on ancient history, early American and modern history, geology, archeology, astronomy, and biographies of world leaders, as well as spirituality and Bible-based selections. She was also gifted at drawing and writing short stories. Family and friends were sometimes treated to renditions of the songs she "decomposed" in which she sang loudly in a comic fashion. Millie is survived by her sister, Margaret "Margy" Boulet, of Bennington; her nephews, Allen Boulet of Bennington, Steve Boulet and his wife, Kathy, of Menands, N.Y., Andre Sourdiffe and his wife, Carmi, of E. Hoosick, N.Y., Brad Sourdiffe and his wife, Joan, of Lincoln, Vt.; Colleen Bloom and her husband, Steve, of Sarasota, Fla., Deirdre Kevorkian and her husband, Eric, of Kernersville, N.C., Ferrilyn Sourdiffe and David Norman of Eagle Bridge, N.Y., Hadrian Sourdiffe and his wife, Debbie, of Jackson, Ga., Ilana Ambrosio and her husband, Chris, of Powder Springs, Ga.; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Wilke and Doris Sourdiffe, both of Georgia, and numerous cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Millie is also survived by her caregivers and the residents of Manes House Community Care Home, where she resided for the last six years. The family is very grateful to Holly, Dottie, Pat, Shannon, Sandra, and Jill for the loving kindness and warmth they provided in ministering to both her physical and mental care, and for going the extra mile with her when the going got rough. Millie was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Viola Cross Sourdiffe; her sister, Evelyn Covey; her brother, Bob Sourdiffe, and niece, Gayle Challen. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME at 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT, on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 1 p.m. Prior to the service, friends may pay their respects, from 12 to 1. A reception will be held immediately following the service at the Missionary Alliance Church on Crescent Blvd. in Bennington.
