Joan Newman Jacobs
1941 - 2014 PERU Joan Newman Jacobs lost her courageous battle with lung cancer on Thursday, May 22, surrounded and held in love by her husband and her close friends. Joan was a beautiful and loving wife to her husband, Abram; a supremely generous and caring aunt to Stacey, Michael, and Beth Castro, and a dearly beloved sister to Joseph Castro. She was a hairdresser for over 50 years to countless fortunate clients in Massachusetts, New York City, and in and around Peru, Vt. More importantly, Joan was an extraordinary human being: humble, caring, loving, kind, beautiful, witty, clever, generous full of life and energy, with a spirit that knew no bounds. She always thought of others first, and her keen intuition and willingness to listen earned her the love and respect of nearly everyone she met. Her remarkable sense of style, her flair for food and cooking, and her love of fun, made any time spent with her feel like the most delightful party and man, could that girl dance. Joan will be dearly missed by the many people whose lives she touched. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at the Peru Congregational Church on Saturday, June 14, at 1 p.m. All who knew her are welcome. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either the Peru Congregational Church (c/o Pastor Margaret) or the Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Vermont and New Hampshire (PO Box 976, White River Junction, VT 05001).
