Lawrence G. Knapp

1926 - 2014 BENNINGTON Lawrence G. "Larry" Knapp, 87, a resident of Branch Street, died Sunday, June 29, 2014 at the Vermont Veterans Home following a long illness. Born in Bennington on Nov. 21, 1926, he was the son of Edward and Margaret (Downer) Knapp. He received his education in the Bennington schools and was a 1945 graduate of Bennington High School. Larry was an Air Force veteran. Larry married the former Vivian Caron at St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington on Nov. 5, 1949. Mrs. Knapp died Sept. 9, 2006. In earlier years, Larry was employed at the Eagle Square plant in Shaftsbury from 1948 1963. He then went to Tansitor Electronics where he worked until his retirement in 1989. Following retirement, he worked part time as a delivery person for Auto City Auto Parts. Larry was a devout member of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales. He was a member of American Legion Post 13, VFW Post 1332, Bennington Eagles Aeerie1861 and Bennington Moose Lodge 1233. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, cutting wood and traveling across the country with his wife. Larry is survived by his four sons and daughters-in-law, Francis P. and Kimberlye Knapp of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., Peter E. Sr. and Debbi Knapp of Milford, N.H., Bruce P. and Cindy Knapp of Bennington and Jeffrey J. and Brenda Knapp of Shaftsbury; two daughters and a son-in-law, Rosemary and Francis Kinney of Shaftsbury and Helene Stratton of Florida; 11 grandchildren, Veronica Patterson, Lin Morin, Nathan Knapp, Tina Slater, Ryan Kinney, Erin Shulman, Peter E. Knapp Jr., Lisa Granger, Tami Elwell, Seth Stratton, Meghan Stratton, Barrett Reed and Sarah Knapp, 17 great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Larry was predeceased by a grandson, Francis P. Knapp Jr.; two brothers, Richard and Edward Knapp, and by four sisters, Agnes Powers, Helen Fraher, Catherine Deery and Irene Joly. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church on Thursday, July 3, 2014, at 10 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. There will be no visitation hours held. Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery. Should friends desire, contributions in Lawrence G.
