Mark D. Poirier Jr.
1960 - 2014 BENNINGTON Mark D. Poirier Jr., 53, a resident of School Street, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, surrounded by his family. He was born in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., on Dec. 6, 1960, the son of Mark D. Poirier Sr. and Karen (Smith) Poirier. Mark was a 1977 graduate of Mt. Anthony Union High School. Following his schooling, Mark served in the U.S. Army. In earlier years, he was employed at UST in Bennington. At the time of his death, he was employed by Southern Vermont College as a campus safety security guard over the past ten years. Mark was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing all sports, including softball which he had played in the Bennington Men's League for several years, known as the "Big Hurt" when he earned the name for all the homers he would hit. He was an avid fan of both the New York Yankees and the Dallas Cowboys. Mark also enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends. Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Poirier of Shaftsbury; a daughter and son-in-law, Abbie and Phil Cummings of Bennington; two grandchildren, Channing Stephens and Simon Cummings; his mother, Karen Poirier of Bennington; his father, Mark D. and Patricia Poirier of Schuylerville, N.Y.; his siblings, Sandy and Stanley Moore of Stratton, Michael D. and Joanne Poirier of North Carolina, Denise and Anthony Perrotta of Bennington, Michelle and Dawn Poirier of Pownal, and David and Crystal Poirier of Schuylerviille, N.Y.; three step-children, Michael and Rebecca Buck of North Adams, Mass., Heather Buck of Lenox, Mass., and Sierra Buck of Bennington; his former wife, Deborah Eaton of Shaftsbury, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mark was predeceased by a stepson, Clint Buck. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the MAHAR SON FUNERAL HOME at the privacy of the family. Burial will follow at the Park Lawn Cemetery.
