Edward S. Tifft BENNINGTON Edward S. Tifft, 61, a resident of County Street died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, surrounded by his family.Born at the family home on Burgess Road in Bennington on May 2, 1947, son of the late Thomas and Dolly Stone Tifft, Ed received his education in Bennington. For 20 years, Ed had been employed at Johnson Controls. After Johnson Controls closed, he worked at the Bijur Lubricating Company for a couple of years; and later worked at Flomatic in Glenns Falls, N.Y., for eight years from which he retired due to his health. He enjoyed hunting and spending time at camp with his friends. He also enjoyed John Wayne movies. His greatest joy was his grandchildren. He leaves his wife, the former Thelma Metcalfe, whom he married Dec. 31, 1966, at Saint Peters Episcopal Church. Besides his wife, he leaves five children and their spouses, Shirley Harris and Patrick of Shaftsbury, Wayne Tifft and Kathy of Woodford, Edward Tifft and Erin of Bennington, Timothy Tifft and Billie-Jo of Bennington, and Melissa Harrington and Jamie of Riverside, R.I.; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and several brothers and sisters and nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by several brothers and sisters FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the MAHAR and SON FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, at 11:30 a.m. with Mother Anita Schell Lambert, Rector of Saint Peters Episcopal Church, officiating. The burial will take place in the family lot in Maple Grove Cemetery in Hoosick Falls, N.Y. Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. If friends desire, contributions in memory of Edward S.
