Anthony Campilongo "Tony" 1943-2012 BENNINGTON Anthony "Tony' Campilongo, 68, a resident of West Carpenter Hill Road in Bennington died Thursday January 5, 2012 at the Buffalo, N.Y. VA Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born in Paterson, N.J., September 10, 1943. He was the son of the late Paul and Angelina (Fulco) Campilongo. Following the death of his mother at the age of 5. Tony was raised by his aunt and uncle Lena and Frank Fulco. He received his education at Paterson Technical School in Paterson and served in the United States Marine Corp. In earlier years Tony owned and operated a welding shop in New Jersey. He worked for many years as a welder/pipe fitter with the Boilermakers Local #28. In 1983 he moved his family to Vermont and was employed by Pizzagali Construction Co., Mattison Plumbing and Heating in Manchester, VT., and Wm Dailey's. He was an independent general contractor until his death. Tony's family was his main interest, and he always put his children first. He loved to fish, play cards and enjoyed going to casinos. He also enjoyed politics, cooking and loved to visit with his friends. He was known to help anyone in need and his door was always open. Survivors include his children. Toni Campilongo and Mark Gardner of Bennington and Christopher Campilongo and Laura Malinowski of Bennington. Two brothers Paul Campilongo of Huntsville, Alabama and Louis Varcadaipane of West Milford. N.J. Several nieces, nephews and cousins. Tony was predeceased by two brothers, Robert Varcadaipane and James Campilongo both formerly of New Jersey. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service will be held at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Sunday January 15, 2012 at 2 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. A time of sharing and refreshment will follow the service at the Bennington Moose Lodge. Friends are encouraged to bring a covered dish. If friends desire contributions in memory of Anthony Campilongo may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
