Joseph Kreel

1926-2013 PAWLET Joseph Kreel, 87, died peacefully in his sleep on September 10, 2013 after a brief illness. Joe was born to the late Stephen and Mary (Pelak) Kreel May 7, 1926 in Singac, New Jersey. He served in the the Navy from July 1943 until May 1947. He was a decorated Veteran who served aboard the USS Pelias "AS-14" in the Pacific during World War II. He married Caroline Siegrist June 13, 1952 and they enjoyed 61 years together. Joe and Caroline raised their four children in Arlington, before retiring to Cambridge, N.Y. They subsequently moved to Frisco, Colo for ten years and returned to Vermont in 2011. Joe is survived by his wife and children: Elaine Whitehead of Penacook, N.H.; Kathryn Lawrence of Pawlet; J. Martin Kreel of Frisco, Colo. and Gretchen Ryan of Wakefield, N.H.; their spouses, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to spending time with his family, Joe enjoyed walking in the woods in Vermont and Colorado. He also spent free time making wood carvings. In lieu of flowers memorial contribution's may be made to Rutland Area Visiting Nurses Association/ Hospice Home Care Nurses, Rutland or the New Skete Monastery, Cambridge, N.Y. FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5 at the New Skete Monastery in Cambridge, N.Y. at 11 a.m.. A private burial will follow at a later date.
