William "Sam" D. Parker, Sr.
1927 - 2014 DALTON William "Sam" D. Parker,Sr., 87, of 56 High Street, died Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Pittsfield on April 30, 1927, the son of Philip W. and Margaret Desmond Parker, he was educated in Dalton schools and was a 1945 graduate of Dalton High School. He served with the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Parker was employed by General Electric Company where he was a woodworker for 40 years, the last ten of which, he was an inspector for the Bradley tanks. He retired in 1987. He was a communicant of St Agnes Church, and was a member of the Dalton American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a Red Sox and Patriots fan who also enjoyed watching golf. He enjoyed woodworking projects, as well Mr. Parker's wife, the former Katherine F. McGill, whom he married Feb. 23, 1952, died June 12, 2008. Mr. Parker is survived by a son, William D. Parker, Jr., of Bethel, Vt.; two daughters, Elizabeth M. King and her husband, Jack, of Chatham, N.Y., and Susan K. Walton and her husband, Lee, of Dalton; eight grandchildren, Justine Wood, Nicholas Wood, Cynthia Walton, Colin Walton, Christian Parker, Joshua Seile, Traci Gero, and John Parker; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Michael W. Parker, who died in 2006, and by a sister, Mary Jane Reardon. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for William "Sam" D. Parker will be held Thursday, June 26, at 11 a.m. at DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton with the Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, pastor of St. Agnes Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends from 10 to 11 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dalton Ambulance and Rescue in care of DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main Street, Dalton.

I am so sorry to hear about Uncle Butch, I remember how great it was to talk to him at Ellen's service. I remember thinking he was such a wonderful connection to my mother. She always talked about her brother. I know the pain of loss. My prayers are with you all.
