Charles William Hogue

1923 - 2014 PITTSFIELD Charles William Hogue, 91,of 108 Chapel Street, died Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Berkshire Medical Center. Born in Pittsfield on Jan. 13, 1923, the son of Joseph A. and Anna M. Goodrich Hogue, he was a graduate of Pittsfield High School. A World War II veteran, Mr. Hogue was inducted into the United States Army on Feb. 25, 1943. He served as a Corporal with Company E, 342d Infantry Regiment. From February 1945 to February 1946, he was a rifleman with the 86th Infantry (Blackhawk) Division, where he was engaged in combat in Germany and Austria, spearheading General Patton's Third Army, for which he was awarded the Bronze Star. Mr. Hogue was honorably discharged on Feb. 25, 1946. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9566 in Dalton. Mr. Hogue was employed by General Electric Company for 44 years, first as a Group Leader in the Distribution Transformer Department, and then, as a Quality Control Leader in the Naval Ordnance Department. A Boston Red Sox fan, he enjoyed tennis, hunting, fishing, and wildlife, swimming, and classical and semi-classical music. Mr. Hogue's wife, the former Patricia Ploss Curry Hogue, whom he married June 19, 1964, died March 6, 1997. Mr. Hogue is survived by a daughter, Heidi M. McCarthy, and her husband, Jim, of Pittsfield; a son, Joseph Hogue of Pittsfield; two stepsons, Drew A. Curry of Windsor, and Daniel Curry of Norfolk; seven grandchildren, Kayla, Michael, Scott, Shawn, Aliah, Robin, Dawn, and Desiree, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a grandson, Daniel Curry, Jr.; by two stepsons, Richard Curry and Douglas Curry; by his brothers, Howard, Wilfred, and Paul; and by his sisters, Helen, Pauline, and Lillian. FUNERAL NOTICE: Calling hours for Charles William Hogue will be held Wednesday, July 9, from 4 to 7 p.m. at DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield. A graveside service with military honors will be held Thursday, July 10, (his late wife's birthday) at 11 a.m at St. Joseph's Cemetery with Pastor Sigmund Sadzinski officiating. Those attending are invited to meet inside the Cemetery gate at 10:45 a.m. A celebration of life will immediately follow at the VFW, 366 East Housatonic Street, Dalton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires in care of the Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
