Helen M. Houghtlin
1923 - 2012 PITTSFIELD Helen Margaret Houghtlin, 89, of 664 Dalton Division Road, Pittsfield, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at the home of her daughter, Helen Perkins, at 61 Louise St., Pittsfield. She was surrounded by her loving family when she went home to be with the Lord.
Born on May 12, 1923, in Pittsfield, daughter of Mitchell Harris and Mary Elston Harris Hugabone, she attended schools in Pittsfield. She was last employed by the former Adams Supermarkets as a cashier and office worker. She enjoyed playing Bingo, the Casinos and mostly her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
She was the wife of George A. Houghtlin, Sr., whom she married May 15, 1939; he died Jan. 8, 2001.
She is survived by three sons, George A. Houghtlin, Jr. and his wife, Mildred, of Pittsfield, Edward Houghtlin and his wife, Reba, of Lake Creek, Texas, and John F. Houghtlin and his wife, Donna, of Dalton; three daughters, Helen G. Perkins, Mary L. Kowalczyk and her husband, William, and Susan B. Filippi, all of Pittsfield; a stepbrother, Douglas Hugabone and his wife. Diane, of Pittsfield; and a sister, Frances Houghtlin of Pittsfield; 25 grandchildren, 54 great grandchildren and 19 great-great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by four grandchildren, Joshua Willis, Helen Taylor, William Stevens and William Kowalczyk, Jr. and by two sons-in-law, Daniel Perkins and David Filippi.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at 11:30 a.m. at the DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA. Burial will follow in the Pittsfield Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday morning from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or to the Salvation Army, both in care of the funeral home.
