1932-2014 WILLIAMSTOWN Donald Edward Anderson 81, of Williamstown, died Tuesday May 13, 2014 at his home. He was born in North Adams on May 20, 1932 a son of the late Harry and Bertha (Lapan) Anderson. He graduated from Williamstown High School. He also graduated from the University of Massachusetts and received his masters degree in education from North Adams State College. He was a veteran of the United States Army as a specialist 3rd class. Mr. Anderson started his teaching career at the Little Red School House in South Williamstown and then to Pittsfield High School where he taught English. In 1967 he transferred to McCann High School in North Adams where he taught English until 1990. He was last employed as a dispatcher for the Williamstown Police Department. He was a communicant of St's Patrick & Raphael Parish in Williamstown. His wife Gay (Gelheiser) Anderson whom he married June 24, 1961 in St. Patrick Church died March 7, 2011. Survivors include his daughter Jane E. Anderson and her companion Michael DiGennaro of North Adams. Two step grandchildren Brandon and Matthew DiGennaro. Brother-in-law George Gelheiser and sister-in-law Elaine Anderson. Several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brother Harry Anderson and two sisters Janet C. Cunningham and Isabelle Singley. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will take place Saturday at 10:00 AM at St.'s Patrick and Raphael in Williamstown. Burial will take place at a later date with military honors. Calling Hours at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St. North Adams,MA. are Friday from 4-7 PM Memorial Donations are suggested for Hospice of the Berkshire's through the funeral home. Jane I am sorry for your loss. Your Dad, aka "Mr. Wonderful" was truly a wonderful teacher and educator. I always enjoyed our quick chats when I ran into him over the years. He was a special man. I am sorry I was unable to make the services. I will keep you both in my prayers.

I am so sorry for your loss. I had him in the 70's for English at McCann and he was one of the very best teachers. He will be missed. My prayers go out to the family.

Sorry to hear of thepassing of your dad. Had lots of fun with him and your mom when she worked with us at Countryside. They were great fun. I still have the Afghan your mom made for me one Christmas. I'll never forget what great people they were.

I remember Mr Anderson when he taught me English in McCann back in the 80's. He was a great teacher and he will be missed. Prayers go out to the Anderson family.

Don and I met while in the Army serving in Hawaii, around 1956, remained good friends through the years, a brighter and funnier man than most people knew. My sympathies Jane.

Mr.Anderson was my English teacher in the late 80's. Even though I hated English he made it exciting to be in his class. He will be missed. Will say a prayer for his family.

Very Sad to hear about Mr Anderson. I had him at McCann Tech for English back in the 70's and he was a great teacher as well as a good man . He helped me a lot and I appreciated it

Mr. Anderson was my favorite teacher when I attended McCann in the 1970's. He made a difference and I can still recall some of the teachings and lively discussions in his class. I extend my sympathy.
