Oprisch, Mary
Mary Ann Oprisch Mary Ann Daniel Oprisch, age 87, died June 20, 2016 in Atlanta, Georgia, after a brief illness. She was born in Tiffin, Ohio, to Dr. Charles Frederick Daniel and Olga Hierholzer Daniel. She earned a degree in Art Education from Ohio Dominican University. Mary Ann was active as a volunteer for civic and Catholic organizations and worked at Saint Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport, Connecticut. She was an active resident at Lenbrook Square Retirement Community in Atlanta, where she lived for the last seven years of her life. Her passion was watercolor painting, and her paintings and pen and ink drawings were featured at many shows and received numerous awards. On August 12, 1950, she married Joseph Leo Oprisch, who died in 2007. In the 57 years of their marriage, they lived in Pittsfield, Massachusetts; Scarsdale, New York; Fairfield, Connecticut; and Atlanta, Georgia. She is survived by: her children Connie Oprisch and her husband, Peter Sullivan, of Silver Spring, Maryland; Robert Oprisch of Germantown, Maryland; Nancy Oprisch Ewing and her husband, James, of Atlanta, Georgia; and Mark Oprisch and his wife, Brenda, of Decatur, Georgia. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Allison and Jennifer Ewing; and Laura, Augustine, and Theodora Oprisch. She was the ninth of ten children and is survived by her younger brother, Charles Daniel of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mary Ann worked hard and cheerfully to raise her four children; among other things, she washed their clothes using a wringer washer and a clothesline, and every day during naptime she would bake an apple or blueberry pie for them. She bore her final illness with calm grace, strength and humor, never losing the twinkle in her eye. It was not lost on those who were with her that she was very comfortable in her faith and transitioning to life in the world to come. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 24, 2016 at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Atlanta, reception to follow at the Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Inner City Foundation for Charity and Education, Bridgeport, Connecticut: 203.416.1363. http://www.innercityfoundation.org
