Dyer, Beverly
Beverly Jean Dyer 1931 - 2016 DALTON- Beverly Jean Dyer of Dalton and Mount Greylock Nursing Home died on Saturday, June 25, 2016. Beverly was born in Pittsfield, MA on October 4, 1931 and was the daughter of Albert and Leona (Archey) Daury. She attended Notre Dame School and graduated from St. Josephs High School in 1949. Her large, beautiful brown eyes and warm smile caught the attention of George C. Dyer, Jr. and they were married on June 25, 1949 at Notre Dame Church in Pittsfield, celebrating 67 years this very day. In her younger years, she put her long, graceful legs to work as a talented tap dancer. Upon her marriage, Beverly moved to Dalton and raised a family of five. She quickly rose from the rank of Commander in Chief to Best Mother in the World with her firm, but always loving guidance. She gave her children the best childhood anyone could hope for. The quintessential 1950's Mom, she was an excellent cook, threw terrific birthday parties complete with pony rides and the Christmas's she gave her children were the stuff of legends. She not only shared her nurturing qualities with her children, but also with any stray animal within a 50-mile radius, adopting many of them. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and family taking in islands, historical sights, plays and musicals. One special highlight was meeting Liberace when he walked up to her in the audience. An accomplished gardener, she thrived in her beautiful gardens of Peonies, Dahlias, Bleeding Hearts and Ferns. She was a noted figure in the town for her support, leadership and expertise in charitable events and for her contributions to the teenage community. She was the head of two girl's clubs arranging and chaperoning dances and events for Dalton Teens. Beverly was a member of the Board of Directors of the Dalton Community House and was Chairwoman of the successful 1972 Community Chest Drive. We will miss her laughter, kindness, compassion and generosity. Besides her husband, survivors include two sons David and Chris Dyer of Dalton and three daughters Cheryl Gimlewicz and Cynthia Ray of Pittsfield and Vicki Thomas of Brattlebrook, CT. She leaves her son-in- laws Dennis Ray, Karl Gimlewicz and Scott Thomas.
