Alice E. Ward

1923-2014 LANESBOROUGH Alice Elizabeth (Brown) Ward passed away peacefully on April 11, 2014 at Williamstown Commons Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family. Alice was born on April 14, 1923 in West Taghkanic, New York and was the daughter of Cornelia (Clemens) and Louis Brown. A graduate of Hudson, New York High School, she lived on the family farm in West Taghkanic until her marriage to Frank Rutherford Ward. They lived on various naval bases until her husband's discharge from the Navy when they then moved to Lanesborough. Alice was a volunteer with many organizations including the Visiting Nurses Association, American Red Cross, Berkshire Medical Center and the Lanesborough PTA. Surviving are her children, Alice Margaret Gagnier of Williamstown, Marilynn Ward Atterbury and Gerald of Monkton, Md.; grandchildren, Grant William Gagnier Jr. and Kelley of Plymouth, Jamison Rutherford Gagnier and Deborah of Duxbury, Morgan Wilcox Crosby and Richard of Rockland; and great-grandchildren, Trent William and Mason Grant Gagnier of Plymouth and Chloe Ward and Emilie Urquhart Gagnier of Duxbury; and numerous nieces and nephews. Alice was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Frank Rutherford Ward; sisters. Emma Leach, Florence Moskaluk, Mildred Young, Carolyn Brown, Esther Duntz, Helen Bard, Frances Tomaso, Johanna Hermance; and brothers, Bernhard and William Brown. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation for the compassionate and excellent care provided by the staff at Williamstown Commons Nursing Home as well as visits, flowers and cards from members of St. John's Episcopal Church in Williamstown. FUNERAL NOTICE: Alice wished to be cremated and at her request there will be no calling hours or services.
