Angela M. Abuisi

Angela M. (Cirullo) Abuisi, 89, formerly of St. Joseph’s Court, 85 Eagle St., North Adams, died Sunday morning, Sept. 24, 2006, at Sweet Brook Care Centers in Williamstown, where she had resided since 2000.
She was a longtimeresident of 47 Prospect St., North Adams, before moving to St. Joseph’s Court. She and her husband first set up housekeeping on Eagle Street, North Adams.
Born in North Adams on Feb. 5, 1917, she was the daughter of Francesco and Elizabeth (Lombardo) Cirullo. She attended schools in North Adams.
Mrs. Abuisi was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co., North Adams, for 33 years. She then worked at the former North Adams State College (now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts) for eight years, until her retirement in 1979.
She was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church, North Adams, and was a member of several church societies, including its Rosary Society and the Christian Mothers.
She was a member of the Sons of Italy Lodge 704 of North Adams, the IUE local at Sprague Electric and the LaFesta Committee.
She enjoyed being part of the church society at St. Anthony of Padua and was active in all of the church events. She was active in civic affairs and volunteered at the voting wards.
She enjoyed baking and was the host of countless family and neighborhood gatherings.
She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease izn 1997, to which she eventually succumbed. Thousands of dollars are raised in her name annually by the participation of family and friends in various fund-raising events established for the purpose of finding a cure for Alzheimer’s.
Her husband, Anthony T. Abuisi Sr., died Feb. 8, 2000, after 63 years of marriage. They were married June 5, 1937, in St. Anthony of Padua Church.
She leaves a daughter, Mary E. Whitman, and her husband, William, of Adams; three sons, Anthony T. Abuisi Jr., and his wife, Mary Ann, of North Adams, Peter M. Abuisi of Vail, Colo., and Francis B. Abuisi, and his wife, Joyce, of Bethlehem, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Lisa, Lucinda, and Letitia of North Adams, Jeffrey of Portsmouth, R.I.; Keith of Stamford, Vt.; Nathaniel of Baltimore and Evan of Adams; seven great-grandchildren, Amanda, Zachary, and Zoe of North Adams, Isabella and Anthony of Portsmouth, and Nicholas and Nolan of Stamford; a great-great-grandson, Jacob of North Adams; four sisters, Mary Bellows of Southport, N.C.; Virginia Strange of Pittsfield, and Rose LeBeau and Frances Rondeau, both of North Adams; several nieces and nephews.
Two brothers, James Cirullo and Michael Cirullo, and a sister, Theresa Gonyea, are deceased.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Angela Abuisi will be held Thursday, Sept. 28, 12:15 a.m., at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St. North Adams. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, North Adams. Burial in be in Southview Cemetery, North Adams.
Calling hours are Wednesday, 5-7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or St. Anthony Capital Campaign in care of the funeral home.
