Antonio B. Anastasio
1937 - 2013 DALTON Antonio B. Anastasio, 76, of 18 Taunton Terrace, was called Home on Monday, July 1, 2013, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Pizzoli, Italy, on Feb. 3, 1937, the son of Giovanni and Rosa Contento Anastasio, he was educated in Italy and graduated from trade school in L'Aquila, Italy. He emigrated to the United States in December 1959.
In 1960, Mr. Anastasio went to work for E.D. Jones which became Beloit-Jones where he worked as a welder/fabricator. He retired in 1999 with 39 years service.
Mr. Anastasio was a communicant of St. Agnes Church.
He was a longtime Youth Hockey Coach and was instrumental in the Wahconah Hockey Team. For many years, he was involved with the Boys Club Youth Hockey Program.
Antonio was an avid fisherman who also loved gardening, mushrooming, and sports.
His greatest joy was his family, whether it was cooking, or watching one of his grandsons playing on the field.
Mr. Anastasio leaves his wife, the former Lucia DeVanna, whom he married Aug. 20, 1960, in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Pittsfield.
He is also survived by two sons, John A. Anastasio and his wife, Robin, of Dalton, and Franco "Frank" A. Anastasio, also of Dalton; a daughter, Rosalie A. Anastasio of Newport, N.H. He was the proud and loving grandfather to John Jr., Nicholas, Anthony, and Marco, all of Dalton. He also leaves behind many family and friends in Italy.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Antonio B. Anastasio will be Friday, July 5, at 10:15 a.m. from DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME in Dalton with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Church, celebrated by the Rev. Christopher A. Malatesta, pastor. Burial will follow in Ashuelot Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dalton C.R.A. Campership Fund in care of the Funeral Home, 890 East Main Street, Dalton.
