1929-2012 Barbara Boice, 83, long-time resident of Richmond, died peacefully at her home on December 14. Her loving daughter Holly and beloved cat Misty were by her side.
Born in Pittsfield, daughter of Edward and Ella Laschky, Barb was a pro merito graduate of the Pittsfield High School class of 1947. Excelling in shorthand and typing she was the Chairman of the Typing Committee for Purple Shadows, the high school year book.
Barb enjoyed employment as a secretary with General Electric, Berkshire Life and Aetna.
Barb loved nature and all animals, especially horses and cats. An accomplished artist she studied oil painting with Marion Parsons, Evelyn Clarke Price, Shelly Fink and Stan Phillips. A former member of the Pittsfield and Sheffield Art Leagues she exhibited her work in several shows and won many awards for her work. One of her paintings is in Berkshire Bank's art collection.
Mrs. Boice was pre-deceased by her loving husband of 54 years, Foster "Buzz" Boice and her brother, Bobby Laschky, who died at age 6 in 1926.
She leaves her daughter Holly Scherzi and her husband James of Manlius, NY along with a brother Carl Laschky of Pittsfield, step-son James and his wife Dana and four nieces and nephews and their families of whom she was very fond.
FUNERAL NOTICE: A private graveside service will be held Thursday December 20th. A celebration of Barb's life with a showing of her work will be held at St. Stephen's Church in early Spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of the Wellington Funeral Home, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
