Carmela G. Misley

1924 - 2014 SANDISFIELD Carmela G. "Millie" Misley, 89, a longtime resident of Sandisfield, passed away Feb. 22, 2014, at the Cameron House on Housatonic Street in Lenox. Born July 23, 1924 in Bronx, N.Y. she was the daughter of Nick and Carrie Battista. One of her first jobs was at Yankee Stadium where she worked as a hostess in the press club. Over the years she met such players as Mickey Mantle and Joe DiMaggio, to name a few. After moving to Sandisfield, Carmela and her husband, the late Joseph Misley, opened a deli in Lee. After they closed the deli Carmella began working at the cafeteria at Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington. She was a fixture on the line. She knew everyone who came passed her station, due to her warm and friendly personality. She is survived by her daughter, Therese Palazzo; her son, Jerry Palazzo; grandsons, Christopher Palazzo and his wife, Elaina, Jesse, Jamie, Gary Jr., and Nicholas Palazzo, and great-granddaughters, Alyssa and Christina . She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Misley, who died on Dec. 29, 2005. The couple was married on Jan. 26, 1975, in Bronxville, N.Y. She was also predeceased by her sons, Gary M. Palazzo, and John J. Palazzo. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral service for the late Carmela Misley will be held on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at 1 p.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington, conducted by the Rev. William H. Murphey. Burial will be in the spring, in Sandisfield Center Cemetery.
