1956-2013 Diane "De" Hawkins Cox of Hendersonville, N.C. passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2013 after a long illness with her husband, Rick, and family by her side at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, N.C. De was born in Greenfield, Mass. on August 25, 1956. She was the daughter of Barbara Allen Hawkins of Greenfield, MA and the late William Hawkins. She graduated from Mt. Greylock High School in Williamstown, Mass. in 1975. She went on to graduate from Southern Vermont College in 1977 before moving to Florida. De moved to Hendersonville, N.C. in 1983 taking a job with the Jack and Ruth Eckerd Foundation as an outdoor wilderness counselor where she met her husband. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her youngest brother, Scott Hawkins. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 30 short years, Rick Cox; children Josh Cox and his fiance, Brittany Bell, of Hendersonville, and Ben Cox of Asheville, N.C.; siblings, Doug Hawkins and his wife Heidi of York, Maine, and Danny Hawkins and his partner, Lori, of Centerville, Mass.; and her wonderful adoring granddaughter, Maddie Cox. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the Bernardston Center Cemetary in Bernardston, Mass. where she will be buried alongside her loving father and brother.
