1921 - 2014 PITTSFIELD Mr. Dominic V. Caccamo, 93, of 82 Elaine Drive, passed away Sunday morning, May 11, 2014, at home. Born in Siderno Reggio Calabria, Italy, on Jan. 20, 1921, the son of Frank and Mary Furfano Caccamo, he attended schools in Italy before immigrating to the United States in 1935. He proudly served his country as an Army Veteran of WWII, serving in the European Theater. Mr. Caccamo worked as a machinist for General Electric in Pittsfield for over 40 years. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and formerly a longtime communicant of the former Mount Carmel Church. Mr. Caccamo was an avid golfer and a member of Berkshire Hills Country Club for 50 years. He took great pride in his home and yard. He always decorated for holidays, to the delight of his neighbors and their children, a flying witch for Halloween, and Santa and Rudolf at Christmas. He constructed his own outdoor patio, which had the largest patio umbrella on record, at 30 feet in diameter. Mr. Caccamo leaves his loving wife of 37 years, the former Nellie Spasyk, whom he married in 1977, in Pittsfield; a son, Bruce D. Caccamo of East Granby, Conn.; a sister, Teresa Caccamo Mole of Pittsfield; four grandchildren, Nicholas Caccamo, Laura Caccamo, Robert Caccamo, and Elizabeth Greenberg Caccamo, and 10 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Dominick Caccamo. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral Services for Mr. Dominic V. Caccamo will be Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at 10:30 from the Dwyer Funeral Home, 776 North St., Pittsfield MA, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, celebrated by the Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will precede the service from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Care in the Berkshires, care of the Dwyer Funeral Home in his memory.
