Edna May Daniels

1933 - 2013 SAVOY Edna May (Richardson) Daniels, 79, of Savoy died peacefully on Thursday, January 24, 2013, in Weslaco, Texas.

Born in Adams on November 3, 1933, daughter of Robert and Mary Richardson, she graduated from Adams Memorial High School. Mrs. Daniels was employed at First National Bank in Adams. She also worked for many years for Dr. Arthur Rosenthal in North Adams and was co-owner with her husband for 33 years of Shady Pines Campground in Savoy until her retirement in 2003. She also enjoyed spending her winters at her second home in Weslaco, Texas.

She was a past Secretary of the Massachusetts Association of Campground Owners, a Director of the Mohawk Trail Association for many years and Grand Marshall one year for the Fall Foliage Parade in North Adams, and a former member of the Northeast Campground Association. Mrs. Daniels was a member of the Savoy School Committee in the 1970s. She also received an award in 1999 from Gov. Paul Cellucci in recognizing her for her outstanding service in the Travel & Tourism industry. She also received the Curtis Fuller Award in 2001 for outstanding work with camping in the Northeast region.

Mrs. Daniels was an avid quilter and loved to crochet. She was always generous with her talents by making quilts for each of her grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading and tending to her many flower gardens. She especially enjoyed knitting preemie baby caps for the hospital in Weslaco, Texas.

She and her husband, William H. Daniels were married June 5, 1954.

Besides her husband of 58 years, she leaves two sons, Michael Daniels and his wife, Margaret, of Cummington, Steven Daniels, and his wife, Diane, of Savoy; two daughters, Linda Giroux and her husband, Richard, of Adams, and Susan McGrath and her husband, Thomas, of Savoy. She was a cherished grandmother or "Nonnie" as she was called by Emily, Eric, Elizabeth, Nicholas, Mitchell, Allison and Rebecca Daniels, Melissa (McGrath) and Tom Mongeon, Jon McGrath, Kyle and Sara Giroux. Even prouder was she as a great-grandmother to Kaitlyn, Meghan, Zachary and Jenna Mongeon. Edna is also survived by her brothers, Robert Richardson and his wife, Marie, of Adams, Bill Richardson of Klamath Falls, Ore., Lawrence Richardson and his wife, Carol, of Cheshire, and a sister, Betty Miller and her husband, Will, of Pittsfield.

A brother, Thomas Richardson was predeceased.

MEMORIAL NOTICE: Services for Mrs. Daniels will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
