1921 - 2014 RANDOLPH CENTER, VT Francis J. "Midge" Meaney, 92, of Randolph Center, died Saturday afternoon, April 5, 2014, at Gifford Medical Center. He was born June 2, 1921, in Pittsfield, the son of Francis J. and Marion Purdy Meaney. He was raised on the Wheatleigh Estate in Lenox, and graduated from Lenox High School. He served in the Army
and Air Force during World War II

, and Distinguished Flying Cross. Midge was married to Barbara E. Brow in Denver, Colo., on Nov. 23, 1944. He had lived in Stockbridge, Housatonic, and Great Barrington, before moving to Vermont in 1998. He retired from Mass Electric after, working there as an electrical consultant for many years. Midge was a member of the Nantucket Basket Makers Association, Southern Berkshire Barber Shop Chorus Association, and the First Congregational Church of Randolph Center. He enjoyed basket making, golf, and caning chairs. Survivors include his wife, Barbara E. Meaney of Randolph Center; daughter, Barbara A. Meaney and her husband, Greg Winnie, of East Randolph; son, David W. Meaney and wife, Wendy, of Lancaster, Penn.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sons, Michael F. Meaney and Stephen R. Meaney, and brother, William Meaney. FUNERAL NOTICE: Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 12, at the First Congregational Church of Randolph Center, with Pastor Doug Cameron, officiating. A burial service with military honors, will be held in May at St. Peter's Cemetery in Great Barrington. There are no calling hours.
