1926-2014 SHEFFIELD Gordon E. Carter, 87, a longtime resident of Sheffield passed away early Wednesday morning, Feb 5, 2014 at Governors Center in Westfield, Mass. He was born on Aug 3, 1926 near Winsted, Conn. He moved to Sheffield, Mass., with his family at an early age, went to Sheffield Schools and was an altar boy at Our Lady of the Valley Church in Sheffield. Mr. Carter was a veteran of World War II where he served with the U.S. Navy. He worked at Sheffield Plastics for many years and retired in 1990. He leaves behinds his sons Ronald and Randall Carter, both of Pittsfield, his son Robert and his wife Maria Carter of Cape Cod, his daughter Jean Hitchcock and her husband Wayne of Dalton. He also leaves one brother James Carter and his wife Dorothy, as well as five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Ellen Kilfeather. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral celebrating the life of the late Gordon E. Carter will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 12:45 p.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington, conducted by Rev. Bruce Teague, pastor Our Lady of the Valley Church, Sheffield, MA. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Our Lady of the Valley Cemetery in Sheffield.
