Irene G. Greene

1923 - 2013 PITTSFIELD Irene G. Greene, 89, formerly of 245 Cheshire Road, Pittsfield, died Sunday, January 6, 2013, at Mt. Greylock Extended Care Facility where she had resided since December 2004.

Born in Long Island, New York, on February 27, 1923, daughter of Fred and Julia Langjhar Ulrich, she came to Pittsfield in 1927, and was educated in Pittsfield schools. Mrs. Greene was employed in the kitchen at Mt. Greylock Regional High School for 12 years, retiring in 1980. She had previously worked at the Button Factory and the Elmvale Woolen Mill, both of which were in Pittsfield.

Mrs. Greene was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Lanesborough where she had been very active. She enjoyed being with her family, cooking and baking, traveling, especially to Hampton Beach, and going to casinos.

Her husband, Kenneth W. Greene, whom she married November 28, 1942, in Pittsfield, died January 14, 2007.

Mrs. Greene is survived by two daughters, Barbara A. Kinnas and her husband, John, of Sarasota, Fla., and Linda L. Durfee and her husband, Paul, of Dalton; a son, Gary R. Greene and his wife, Carol, of Pittsfield; three sisters, Viola Skeper of Hampden, Conn., Jean Cross of Dade City, Fla., and Dorothy Vallone and her husband, Mike, of Pittsfield; nine grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Ulrich, late of Dalton.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Graveside services for Irene G. Greene will be held in the Spring at Riverside Cemetery in Lanesborough at a date and time to be announced. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Greene may be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
