Isaiah J. "Ike" Petruzella

1930-2013 PITTSFIELD Mr. Isaiah J. "Ike" Petruzella, 82, of Pittsfield, president of Local Branch 286 of the National Association of Letter Carriers from 1970 to 1975, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 11, 1930, son of Angelo and Angela DiFalco Petruzella, he attended Mercer School and was a 1948 graduate of Pittsfield High School, where he received the Pierson Award for track.

Mr. Petruzella was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier at the Pittsfield Post Office, retiring in 1986 after 30 years of service. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948 until his honorable discharge in 1953.

He and his wife, the former Joan K. Storie, were married July 26, 1952, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2002. Upon their retirement, they spent winters in Florida. Mrs. Petruzella died May 9, 2009.

Mr. Petruzella was the star center for the 1948 Pittsfield High School basketball team and was inducted into the 2007 Pittsfield City Basketball Hall of Fame. He also played for the Boys' Club League and was a former coach of the Boys' YMCA League.

He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and watching sports on TV, especially the Red Sox and college basketball. He also enjoyed fishing and playing golf.

He leaves two daughters, JoAnn Dekom of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Denise Petruzella of Pittsfield; two sons, Mark Petruzella of Pittsfield and Timothy Petruzella; his brother, James Petruzella of San Jose Calif.; his sister, Virginia Cimini of Dunedin, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, David Petruzella, on Aug. 2, 1999.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Mr. Isaiah J. "Ike" Petruzella will be Monday, February 4, 2013, at 9 a.m. from Dwyer Funeral Home, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Church celebrated by the Rev. A. Peter Gregory, pastor. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home for Mr. Petruzella will be Sunday, February 3, 2013, from 2 to 5 p.m.
