1925 - 2014 WILLIAMSTOWN Jacqueline Stiteler desCognets died Jan. 26, 2014, in Santa Cruz, Calif., after a lengthy illness. Jacqueline was born in Danville, Pa., on March 9, 1925, to Marian B. Simpson Stiteler and W. John Stiteler Jr. Her family moved often during her childhood and World War II. She graduated in 1947 with honors from Goucher College with a history degree and never lost her passion for learning. Jacqueline married Louis des Cognets III in Somerset, Pa., on Oct. 23, 1948. They remained married for almost 60 years until his death in January 2007. Louis and Jackie moved to Williamstown where they spent their married life. Jackie was a creative homemaker and a wonderful cook. She recorded for the blind for 25 years. A dedicated gardener she was a member of the Williamstown Garden Club and South Williamstown Historical Society. Jacqueline was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Louis, and her brother, Edward. She is survived by her son, Louis desCognets IV, and his wife, Jennifer Hooks desCognets of Santa Cruz, Calif.; her daughter, Marian desCognets and her partner, John Wells, of Roswell, N.M.; two grandsons, Nicholas and Caleb, and two sisters-in-law, Angeles Stiteler of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Elizabeth desCognets of Washington, D.C. She was a loyal and good friend, a great mother and wife. We will miss her keen mind, warm heart, and quirky sense of humor. A celebration of her life will be held in the spring.
