Joel Eason Jr.
1939-2012 Former Pittsfield resident Joel "Junior" Eason Jr., 73, of Ocala, Fla. died after a long-term illness on October 25, 2012.
He was born in Screven, Georgia on Oct. 1, 1939 to the late Joel Eason Sr. and Beatrice Joyner Menifee and attended Georgia schools.
Mr. Eason for several years owned and operated J&J Trucking and was also employed by Hillcrest Educational Center in Great Barrington, Mass. He was a past member of Reigning Love Church and a former member of Western Mass Labor Action.
He enjoyed being with family and was affectionately called "Junior" by family and friends. He was known as a devoted provider and protector, and for his good natured practical jokes.
Mr. Eason is survived by his wife of 35 years, Janice Eason, of Ocala, Fla.; sisters, Elizabeth Wright and Rebecca Vail and a brother, Sylvester Eason, all residing in Pittsfield, Mass; his five children, Joel Eason Mauer of Lusk, Wyoming, Star Eugene of Pembroke Pines, Fla., Rosemarie McSwain of Ypsilanti, Mich., Erika Eason and Joel D. Eason III of Ocala, Fla.; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister, Helen O. Ford.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 9, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Reigning Love Church, 235 East St., Pittsfield.
