Judy Kathleen Zieba
1944-2012 Judy Kathleen Zieba, 68, of Sanford, NC, who earlier had received the Last Rites of the Catholic Church in Adams, with her family gathered around her, peacefully went home to her Creator on October 30, 2012. She is sorely missed, but shall live on forever in the memories of those who knew her.
Judy was born on March 7, 1944 to Gordon Leslie and Doris (Patrick) Edge. The oldest daughter, she had 6 brothers and 2 sisters, and was predeceased by her son, Michael Stanley Zieba; brothers David, Waylon, and Barney; as well as a sister, Mary Lee Wright.
On February 10, 1962, Judy married Sgt. James S. Zieba in a Catholic ceremony in the 82nd Airborne Division Memorial Chapel at Fort Bragg, NC, presided over by the Chief of Chaplains, Rev. (COL) John Colson. Together they had four children: Linda Jean, Helene Louise, Michael Stanley, and James Michael.
After her husband retired from the Army Special Forces in 1978 and settled back into his native Berkshires, Judy was a long-time president of the Ladies Auxiliary of Burnette-Bednarz VFW
Post 1995 in Adams. Returning to North Carolina with her husband in 1990, she often was employed by her great friends, Ike and Joyce Smith, in Fayetteville.
Above all else, however, she was always a patriotic "special forces wife" and raised a great family while enduring the hardships of her husband's frequent military duty- and civilian job-related deployments. In the last four years of her life, she also enjoyed the constant companionship of a beautiful honey tinged, snow white maltese-poodle lapdog, nicknamed Scooter, who was a loving gift from several of her grandchildren.
Judy is survived by her husband of 50+ years, Army Special Operations MAJ (Ret.) James S. Zieba, their 3 children, and 7 grandcildren: Linda Jean Legassie and daughter, Ashley Kathleen, of Hope Mills-Fayetteville, NC; Helene Louise Sommer, of Adams, her husband, Michael, their 4 children; Samantha Jolene, RN, Laura Marie, Michael John, Jr.,Sabrina Lynn; and SFC James M. "Mike" Zieba, Sr. Drill SGT, MAARNG, and NAPD Officer, his wife, Debbie, his stepson, Matthew Ernest Scott; his son, SPC Michael Alan, MAARNG, and daughter Breana Marie, all of Adams;
Judy also leaves behind 3 brothers; Larry, Sam, and Wayne; a sister, Kathie Dianne Johnson; and many nieces & nephews.
