Julia M. Bzdula
1921 - 2014 LENOX Julia M. Bzdula, 92, of 140 Housatonic St., died Friday, April 4, 2014, at Berkshire Medical Center. Born on August 3, 1921, in Pittsfield, she was a daughter of the late Silvio Monticone and Fiorina Gai Monticone. A longtime Pittsfield resident, she had resided in Lenox for the past six years. She was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1939 graduate of Pittsfield High School. She had proudly served her country as a member of the Air Force during World War II
. She married her husband, Patrick S. Bzdula in Ware, in June 1958. He died in March, 1975. Mrs. Bzdula was employed as a food service manager for the Pittsfield Public School System for over 10 years, retiring in 1983, and had also worked at one time in the Childcare Center at Berkshire Community College. She was a volunteer at the American Red Cross for over 50 years, and was a member of the Berkshire Business & Professional Women's Organization. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and cooking. She leaves her son, Patrick S. Bzdula of Framingham, and his longtime companion, Mary Ellen Ropelewski of Pittsfield, along with her two sons, William and Andrew Sondrini, who were like grandchildren to her. Mrs. Bzdula also leaves two sisters, Giovanna "Jenny" Messana of Pittsfield, and Mary Trzepacz of Pittsfield and Florida; a brother, Silvio Monticone of Indiana; a nephew, James Messana of Lenox; a niece, Jaimy Messana of Lenox, and a grandniece, Michelle Messana, of Lenox. She was predeceased by a sister, Sylvia Novaris of Pittsfield. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Julia M. Bzdula, 92, of Lenox, who died April 4, 2014, will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. from the DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Ann's Church in Lenox, celebrated by the Rev. Christopher J. Waitekus, pastor. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will take place Thursday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, prior to the service.
