Lane W. Durkee

1930 - 2013 PITTSFIELD Lane W. Durkee, 83, of Marietta, Ga., formerly of Pittsfield, died peacefully on April 11, 2013.

He was born April 6, 1930 in Pittsfield and was one of 10 children of Marion (Sweener) and Harold Durkee.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean War from 1949-1951.

He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara (Quinn) Durkee, a retired RN, whom he married in 1953. He was also predeceased by two sisters, Janice Twarog and Judith DeCarlo.

Lane is survived by his daughter, Ann Durkee Hutchinson of Kennesaw, Ga., and his two beloved grandchildren, Hannah (Hutchinson) Crane and her husband, Brian Crane, of Kennesaw, and Brian Hutchinson, a student at the University of Georgia; five sisters, Carolyn Phillips, Lynn Steadman, Ardith Shaddick, Lorraine Taylor, and Karen Gilbert; two brothers, Norman and Kenton Durkee, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Before moving to Georgia, Lane was employed for 39 years at Berkshire Medical center. While living in the Berkshires, he was a member of the Irish American Club and The Eagles.

He was an avid reader, bowler, genealogist, and coin collector. Lane was a self-taught handyman, always working on a "project" as well as a sports fan, never missing any of his grandchildren's soccer games.

At his request, there were no calling hours or service.
