Leah C. Tracy

1933-2014 CHESHIRE Mrs. Leah (Casey) Tracy, 80, of 100 Depot St. Cheshire, died Friday afternoon, May 2, 2014, at Mt. Greylock Extended Care Facility in Pittsfield, surrounded by her family. She was born in Monson, Maine on July 19, 1933, a daughter of the late Phileas and Rosemarie (Cormier) Casey. She attended Monson Academy and graduated from Skowhegan (ME) High School with the Class of 1950. Leah then enlisted in the US Navy, and served along with her sister, Emily, in the WAVES. She became a press and photographer's assistant, covering such events as the presidential campaign of Dwight D. Eisenhower and Vice President Richard Nixon. Following her discharge, she married Stanley F. Tracy on February 10, 1954, and moved to Cheshire, where they settled and raised their family. Mr. Tracy died on December 13, 2013. Before retiring, Leah last worked as a telephone operator at Berkshire Medical Center for over 30 years. Earlier, she had worked at the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams. She was a 60 year member of the First Baptist Church of Cheshire. She and her late husband served as Cemetery Commissioners for the Town of Cheshire for many years. She was a devoted family person and especially enjoyed spending time with her four grandchildren. She was an animal lover, and also enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, traveling, politics and taking vacations to Maine and Hawaii. She was a talented seamstress and would design and make outfits for church and community events. She is survived by her son, Stanley E. Tracy and his wife, Susan, of Cheshire; her daughter, Valerie J. Tracy of Pittsfield; her four grandchildren, Daniel C Janey and Isaiah C. Janey, both of Pittsfield; Amy M. Tracy of Lenox and Kelly A. Tracy of Pittsfield; her son in law, Curtis C. Janey of Pittsfield; her brothers, Norris Casey of Antioch, Calif., and Otis Casey of Dover Plains, N.Y.; her close friend, Celia Itchon of Pittsfield; her close niece and nephews, Janice Jamros of Pittsfield, James Jamros of Cheshire and William Kelson of Washington, Mass.; as well as many other nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; her cat Kadi and her dog Reggie. She was predeceased by her daughter, Susan E. (Tracy) Janey, on December 15, 2011; as well as her siblings Regis Casey, Lodie Darmstadt, Dora Sheldon, Hazel St. Hilaire, Norma Jamros and Emily Barnett. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 6th, at 11:00 AM in the Cheshire United Methodist Church, Church St., Cheshire. Burial will be held at a later date in Cheshire Cemetery.
