Leopold "Paul" Meczywor
1922-2012 ADAMS Mr. Leopold Philip "Paul" Meczywor, 90, of 11 Summit Ave. Adams, died early Wednesday morning, Oct. 3, 2012, at his home.
He was born in Adams on January 19, 1922, a son of the late Wincenty and Balbina (Jedrzejowska) Meczywor. He graduated from St. Stanislaus Elementary School and attended the former Adams High School. He had also played Semi-Pro Basketball with the St. Stanislaus Basketball Team.
Mr. Meczywor was a Veteran of World War II
, serving with the US Navy
in the European Theater. He participated in the invasions of Sicily and Salerno; and in the initial assaults of Anzio and Salerno. He was Honorably Discharged in 1944.
Mr. Meczywor worked as a Letter Carrier at the Adams Post Office for over 20 years, until retiring in 1984. Following his retirement, he worked part-time at McAndrews-King Pontiac/Buick/GMC in Adams for many years.
He had been a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams. He was a member of the St. Stanislaus Kostka Society; Adams Post 160 American Legion; the Maple Grove Civic Club; and was honored as a 50 Year Member of the National Association of Letter Carriers.
He enjoyed baking pies, making home-made kielbasa, gardening, refinishing furniture, and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, attending many of their sporting events.
He is survived by two daughters, Paula Kordana and her husband, Larry, of Windsor; and Linda Rodovick and her husband, Joe, of Stamford, Vt.; a son, Michael Meczywor and his wife, Molly, of Adams; his former wife, Barbara (McAndrews) Meczywor, of Adams; six grandchildren, Matthew and Mark Rodovick; Jake Kordana; and Casey, Carson and Emma Meczywor; And many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers, John, Chester and Longin Meczywor; and by three sisters, Edna Gregalis, Clementine Granger and Leona Paluch.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 6th, at 10 a.m. in the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. Adams. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Kostka Cemetery, Adams.
Calling hours are Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
