Lydia "Babe" Vredenburg

PITTSFIELD Lydia M. "Babe" Vredenburg, 91, of Pittsfield, died Sunday morning. Born in Westerly, Rhode Island, February 1, 1921, the daughter of William A. and Lydia Kelleher Matthews, she was a 1939 graduate of Westerly High School. A loving mother and homemaker, for much of her life she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Quonochontaug, RI where she was very active in their Lady's Aid Society. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and baking for her family.

Her husband of many years, Robert George Vredenburg, recently predeceased her.

Mrs. Vredenburg is survived by two sons; Robert M. Vredenburg of Ashway, RI and George L. Vredenburg of Hope Valley, RI; and one daughter, Cheryl A. Madden; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her sister Frances Arzamarski of Charlestown, RI.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral of Mrs. Lydia M. Vredenburg will be conducted Wednesday at 10 am at BucklerJohnston Funeral Home, 121 Main Street, Westerly, RI 02891. An hour of visitation at the funeral home will be from 9 am until the time of the funeral. Burial will follow in the Rhode Island Veteran's Cemetery in Exeter, RI. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to Shriners Hospital, Orthopedic Unit, in care of Rhode Island Hospital, PO Box H, Providence, RI 02901
