Marcella Noella Barents
1914 - 2014 PITTSFIELD Marcella Noella Barents, 99, formerly of Crane Avenue, died Sunday, July 27, 2014, at Bay Path Nursing Home in Kingston, Mass. Born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, on Nov. 12, 1914, the daughter of Antonio A. and Loretta Chouinard Dussault, she was educated in Canada schools. Her family came to the United States in November, 1922, first to North Adams and then to Pittsfield in 1927, graduating from Pittsfield High School. Mrs. Barents was a homemaker. She had, at one time, worked at General Electric Company for five years and at Eaton Paper Company for ten years. While in Pittsfield, she was a communicant of St. Charles Church. She enjoyed baking and cooking, crocheting, and the art of letter-writing. Her husband, Douglas E. Barents, whom she married Aug. 26, 1939, died Sept. 15, 1969. Mrs. Barents is survived by three sons, Bruce D. Barents and his wife, Ann, of East Sandwich, Paul E. Barents and his wife, Katherine, of Easton, Md., and Thomas A. Barents of Upton; a daughter, Maureen A. Canavan of Pembroke; nine grandchildren, James Canavan, David Canavan, Christine Paupore, Ann Marie Lewis, Brian Barents, Matthew Barents, Carlene Kuczma, Douglas Barents, and Stephanie Picard, and 16 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three sisters, Alice Lamy, Eleanor Wilson, and Florence Kelley. Mrs. Barents' family wishes to thank the nursing staff and aides at Bay Path Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for all of the great care and loving support given to their mother over the past seven years. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Marcella Noella Barents will be held Friday, Aug. 8, at 9:15 a.m from DERY FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. atSt. Charles Church, celebrated by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
