Meta Louise Cardin

1914 - 2013 ADAMS Meta Louise (Frederick) Cardin, 98, of 8 Cook St. died Monday morning, April 15, 2013, at Williamstown Commons.

Born in Adams on Dec. 8, 1914, the daughter of George and Anna (Scharmann) Frederick, she graduated from the former Adams High School with the Class of 1932, and from the former Berkshire Business College in Pittsfield.

Mrs. Cardin worked as an executive secretary, first at the former Brightwater Paper Co. in Adams, and then for its successors, Budd Paper Co. Rochester Paper Co. and James River Paper Co., until her retirement.

She was an active member of the former St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Adams, where she served as its Treasurer, and as a member of its Vestry, Altar Guild, Chancel Choir, Prayer Chain and as a Sunday School Teacher. Following the merger of St. Mark's with St. John's Episcopal Church in North Adams, she was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in North Adams.

She was a member of the Adams Senior Citizens, the World Day of Prayer committee, the Sisterhood Tea and the Berkshire County Chapter of the Embroiderer's Guild of America. She enjoyed reading, embroidering, cooking, and spending time with her family. She had also worked as a caterer at the Adams Turn Hall and several other local function halls.

Her husband, Arthur E. Cardin, whom she married June 30, 1937, died Dec. 13, 1980.

She is survived by two sons, Terry F. Cardin and his wife, Patricia, of Adams, and Bruce E. Cardin and his friend, Paula Hakes, of Adams; four grandchildren, Travis Cardin of Suffield, Conn.; Jeremy Cardin of Greenville, S.C.; Ryan Cardin of Schenectady, N.Y., and Darin Cardin and his wife, Amy, of Franklin; four great-grandchildren, Joshua, Lilly, Henry and Anthony, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Robert Cardin, in 2009; and by a brother, George Frederick in 1980.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be Thursday, April 18, at 9 a.m. from the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., followed by a Requiem Eucharist and Burial Office at 10 a.m. in All Saints Episcopal Church, North Adams, celebrated by the Rev. Stephen White, Priest-in-Charge. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
