Ralph V. Osborn, Jr.
1935 - 2013 PITTSFIELD Ralph V. Osborn, Jr., 77, of Pittsfield, died Sunday Aug. 11, 2013, at Mt. Greylock Extended Care Facility after a brief illness.
Born in Norwalk, Conn., on Nov. 11, 1935, he was the son of Ralph V. Osborn Sr. and Ruth Scharmer Osborn Warner. He lived in Stamford, Conn., until age 13 when the family moved to Canaan, Conn. He graduated from Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Falls Village, Conn., in 1954. He attended Rensselaer Polytechnical Institute in Troy, N.Y., for two years and then graduated from North Adams State College, (MCLA) with a degree in physics.
Mr. Osborn worked at General Electric Co. (Ordnance Dept) for over 40 years, starting as a Technical Writer and retiring as a Program Engineer from General Dynamics.
He served in the United Sates Army from 1958-1961.
He enjoyed gourmet cooking, classical music, woodworking and tending his vegetable garden.
He leaves his wife, the former Rita A. Mackey, whom he married on May 5, 1962, at St. Mary the Morning Star Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves his loving children, daughters, Elizabeth A. Bruce and husband, Dennis, of Acton, and Katherine R. DiNicola and husband, Mark, of Clifton Park, N.Y., and a son, Shaun C. Osborn of Pittsfield. He also leaves his two adored grandchildren, Andrew Bruce and Caroline Bruce of Acton; a sister-in-law, Mary L. Ward of Pittsfield; nephews, Michael L. Ward and wife, Jennifer, of Pittsfield, Daniel T. Ward and his wife LiSing, of Boston, and a niece, Margaret L. Ward of Newton.
He was predeceased by a brother-in-law, Tyrone Ward and his step-father, Theodore Warner.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Mr. Ralph V. Osborn Jr. died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013. Funeral services will be Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at 10 a.m. from the DWYER FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Agnes Church in Dalton, celebrated by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Pittsfield.
