Reno Dante Castagna, Sr.
Jan. 10, 1932 - Jan. 24, 2014 RICHMOND Born at home on Summit Road in Richmond on Jan, 10, 1932 to Balsemina Elisa (Mettifogo) and Fiorindo Castagna, both immigrants who sailed on SS Conte Verde from Genova, Italy, on April 8, 1924, to live in Richmond. Reno was predeceased by his wife, Ann Marie (Kelliher), whom he truly loves; and his parents; his brothers, Fiorindo Jr. and John, and his sister, Edith Jamross, all of whom resided in Richmond. Reno leaves his five children, Reanne C. Reynolds and her fiance, Keith Palmer; Judith A. Meyer and her husband, Richard; Reno D. Castagna Jr. and his three daughters, Luzann, Julie, and Lynsey; Katherine A. Kerin and her husband, Mike, and their children, Alex and Jessica; Antonio F. Castagna and his wife, Krystal, and their children, Kyleigh, Kendra and Katerina; his sister, Lena Danyleiko and her husband Nick; his in-laws, Lenora and Jim Bergeron; Judy and George Weldon; Sandy Harvey; Eleanor Penna, and Jeanette Dupuis, and several nieces and nephews. He was a 1949 graduate of Pittsfield High and earned an Associate's degree in Criminal Justice at BCC. He served as a Medic in the Korean War
. He retired from GE Ordinance as a Quality Assurance Engineer. He also worked at Liberty Package Store. Formerly, he was the Richmond Chief of Police, a Fire Chief, a volunteer fireman, and Past Commander MA American Legion Post 254. Known for his self reliance, determination and hardworking nature, Reno was also known for his generosity and helpfulness to all with whom he came in contact. He was an avid Red Sox fan. But most of all he will be remembered for his love for ALL of his family. He will be greatly missed. FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Feb. 1, at 9 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, West Stockbridge, with the Rev. Christopher J. Waitekus, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the KELLY FUNERAL HOME, 3 Main Street, Lee, MA 01238 on Friday, Jan. 31, from 3 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his memory to Meals on Wheels, Elder Services, 66 Wendell Ave., Pittsfield.
