Richard S. Hitchcock

1939 - 2014 LEE Richard S. Hitchcock, 74, of East Center Street, Lee, Mass., died Saturday, May 31, 2014, at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Pittsfield, Mass., on Aug. 6, 1939, he was the son of Theron and Laura Becker Hitchcock. Richard was educated in Lee Schools and was a 1957 graduate of Lee High School. Following graduation, he worked for George VanZandt Sheet Metal and later joined Local #63, where he worked as a sheet metal worker for various companies. Richard and his wife, the former Carolyn Thomson, were married Sep. 2, 1961. In addition to his wife of 52 years, Richard leaves three sons, Robert T. Hitchcock and his wife, Brenda, David E. Hitchcock and his wife, Laurie, all of Pittsfield, and Wayne S. Hitchcock and his wife, Jean, of Dalton; one daughter, Laura M. Abbott and her husband, Paul, of Lee; nine grandchildren, Shyla, Shane, David, Ryan, James, Renee, Shauna, Joseph, and Jessica; eight great-grandchildren, and a sister, Dorothy H. Bleivik of Lenox. Richard was predeceased by his brother, Theodore and his sisters, Jane DeFreest, Ruth Hayden, Carol Savery, and Barbara Holden. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Richard will be private.
