Rita M. Benjamin

1923 - 2013 DALTON Rita Marian Benjamin, 89, formerly of 24 Elm Street, where she had resided for 65 years, died Sunday, March 10, 2013, at Craneville Place of Dalton.

Born in Russell on May 10, 1923,the daughter of Eugene and Mary Valley Wellspeak, she was educated in Dalton schools and was a graduate of Dalton High School.

Mrs. Benjamin was employed by Crane & Co., Inc. where she was superintendent in the Finishing Department at the Weston Mill. She retired in 1984 with 27 years service.

She was a communicant of St. Agnes Church and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing the organ and ballroom dancing, cross country skiing, reading and computer games.

She is survived by her husband, John O. Benjamin, whom she married Aug. 9, 1941, at St. Agnes Rectory.

Mrs. Benjamin is also survived by two sons, John A. Benjamin of Richmond, Va., and Paul R. Benjamin and his wife, Christine, of Pittsfield, and nieces and nephews, including her special niece, Rita Dehey of Dalton.

She was predeceased by six sisters.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A graveside service for Rita Marian Benjamin will be in the Spring at Ashuelot Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the in care of DERY-FOLEY FUNERAL HOME, 890 East Main Street, Dalton.
