STAMFORD Roberta S. Lawrence, 75, of Stamford, Vt. passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 16, 2013.
Roberta was born in Ware, Mass. on April 14, 1937, daughter of late Robert F. Scott and Fay Chapman (Scott) Smith. She was raised and educated in Barre, Mass. graduating from Barre High in 1955. She went on to attend Salem State Teachers College for two years (1955-1957). While attending College, she met her loving husband the late Stanley L Lawrence Sr. of whom she was married to for 56 wonderful years. Stan passed away on November 1, 2012.
Roberta was a former co-owner of the Stamford Valley Golf Course, which she was the Business Manager of for 28 years. She and Stan turned their family business over to their two sons to carry on their family business. Roberta was active in her community serving on the Stamford Valley Golf Course Board of Directors and the Stamford Elementary School Board for many years.
She was also a communicant of the Stamford Community Church. Roberta enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting, traveling and she was a competitive bridge and pitch player. Stan and Roberta spent much of their retirement enjoying all 13 of their grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Roberta is survived by her mother, Fay Chapman (Scott) Smith of Barre, Mass. She leaves two sons, Stanley L. Lawrence Jr. and his wife Sheila, and Mark R. Lawrence and his wife Melissa, both of Stamford. Roberta is also survived by her daughter, Kelli Lawrence Corbeil of Brattleboro, Vt.. She leaves several grandchildren, Stanley Lawrence III and fiancee Stacy Williams, Samantha (Lawrence) Zawistowski and husband Alan, Shaine Lawrence, Amandakelli Lawrence, Nicholas Lawrence, Matthew Lawrence, Chad Lawrence, Connor Corbeil and Zachary Corbeil, along with four great-grandchildren, Gabe, Scott, Skylar and Cooper. She leaves two sisters, Shirley Gariepy with brother-in-law Richard Gariepy of Barre, and Irene Bergman with brother-in-law Dana Bergman of Worcester, Mass. Additionally, she is survived by a daughter-in-law, Terry Lawrence; a sister-in-law, Ellison Finney; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Roberta was predeceased by her son, Scott Brian Lawrence; son-in-law, William J. Corbeil; her father, Robert F. Scott; and two sisters-in-law, Priscilla Mullett and Linda Noyes.
FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service for Roberta S Lawrence will be held on Saturday, April 13 at 10 a.m. at the Stamford, Vt. Congregational Church on Main Road. Her burial will be held privately by her family at a later date.
