Ruth M. Decker

1927 - 2012 SHEFFIELD Ruth M. Decker 85, of Pike Road, Sheffield, died Thursday Nov. 15, 2012, at home, surrounded by her loving family after she fought a courageous battle with cancer for two years.

She was born in Augusta, Maine, on March 10, 1927, daughter of Harry and Edna Brace. She was a graduate of Lee High School. Ruth worked as a housekeeper for Dr. Lippman of Cherry Hill Rd, Stockbridge, for over 20 years. She was a past president of three years for the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and was named outstanding president for those three years. She enjoyed reading, gardening, watching and feeding the birds. Ruth and her husband enjoyed traveling, going on cruises and camping with their family and friends. Ruth was a family person. She loved her family and dearly loved spending time with them.

She leaves her husband of 66 years, Maurice, whom she married on Oct. 5, 1946, in St. Mary's Church, Lee; two sons, Richard and his wife Evelyn of Stockbridge and Dennis and his wife Lori of Housatonic; three daughters, Nancy Flynn of Sheffield, Christine Cross of Housatonic, and Deborah Goerlach and her husband Gary of Great Barrington; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Dorothy Cronin of Great Barrington; brother-in-law Ken Kushi of Sheffield and nieces and nephews. Ruth also leaves her best friend, her dog Coco.

Ruth was predeceased by one son, Ronald L., who died Sept. 3, 1964.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Ruth M. Decker who died November 15, 2012 will be held on Saturday November 24, at 11:00 AM in BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME with the Deacon Reverend Richard Magenis officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, Great Barrington. Family will receive friends on Friday November 23, from 4-6 PM at the Birches-Roy Funeral Home.
