Shirley A. Tart
1926 - 2014 PITTSFIELD Shirley A. Harrington Tart, 87, formerly of Pittsfield, passed away sweetly Tuesday, surrounded by family. She was born in Pittsfield, May 10, 1926, the daughter of the late Michael and Anna Fox Harrington. She attended the local schools and was a 1945 graduate of Pittsfield High School. In addition to being a perfect mother and homemaker, Shirley worked at the former Joanne's Bakery and Knittown Clothing Stores in Pittsfield and on Cape Cod. She and her late husband of 65 years, Raymond H. Tart, who died Nov. 15, 2012, were married in 1947. She is survived by her six daughters, Mary Lou Campbell of Stockbridge, Cynthia A. Sanford and her husband, Tom, of Pittsfield, Melissa J. Patnode and her husband, Lenny, of Pittsfield, Shirley A. Costello and her husband, Charles, of Bowden, Ga., Tabitha A. McGonagle and Jennifer A. Ruel of Bellingham; a daughter-in-law, Mary Tart of Pittsfield; her sister, Anne McGuigan of Pittsfield; sisters-in law, Betty Harrington and Rita Tart of Pittsfield, and Barbara Tart of Lee; 23 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two sons, Raymond M. Tart and Terrence A. Tart, and her son-in-law, William D. Campbell; four brothers, Donald, Richard, Michael and Robert Harrington and two sisters, Mrs. Glenna Benoit and Mrs. Eunice Calkins. Shirley will be remembered for her quick wit, softness with a wee one, good cooking, artistic abilities, infectious smile that lit up a room and her voice that was as sweet and cheerful as a bird. The family would also like to thank Springside Nursing Home for their constant and loving care that they have provided over the past five years. Their compassion and devotion for what they do, was an immense help to the family and will never be forgotten. FUNERAL NOTICE: Shirley A. Harrington Tart died April 1, 2014. Calling hours at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME will be Sunday evening, from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday morning beginning at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home, followed with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Church, with the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Charles Choir in care of the funeral home.
