Stanley J. Gimlewicz
1922-2014 Stanley J. Gimlewicz, 91, a lifelong resident of Pittsfield, died Friday, January 10, 2014, at Craneville Place of Dalton where he had resided since 2010. Born in New Britain, Connecticut, on May 9, 1922, a son of Louis and Victoria Mach Gimlewicz, he was educated in Pittsfield schools and was a 1940 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He proudly served with the United States Navy
, stationed in the Pacific, during both World War II
and the Korean War
. Mr. Gimlewicz was employed by General Electric Company as an expeditor. He retired in 1987 with 44 years service. He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church and had been a communicant of the former Holy Family Church. He was a member of the Polish Community Club and enjoyed polka dancing. He was a life member of the Pittsfield Veterans of Foreign Wars
. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. Mr. Gimlewicz is survived by a brother, Joseph J. Gimlewicz, and his wife, Florence, of Pittsfield; and a sister, Agnes Ferry, of Spring, Texas; as well as many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Helen Lancto. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Stanley J. Gimlewicz will be held Tuesday, January 14, at 12:30 p.m., from DERY FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m., at St. Joseph Church celebrated by Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 11:30 to 12:30 at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires in care of the Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield.
