Stella Markey

1928 - 2013 PITTSFIELD Stella Rita Markey, 85, a resident of Mount Greylock Extended Care, passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, April 23, 2013.

Born in The Bronx, Stella was the daughter of the Gabriel and Julia (Tancredi) DiMartino. At a young age, she moved to Caanan, N.Y., and lived in Pittsfield, ultimately residing with her husband, Al Markey, in Lenox, for the next 33 years.

Stella worked as the selectmens secretary for the towns of Lenox and Stockbridge, and later as an administrative assistant for GE Ordnance. Before retiring, she was employed as an administrator for Berkshire Home Care.

Stella's greatest love was her family. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she had a wide range of interests. Among these were oil painting, music, and travel. She was also an avid reader, loved nature and enjoyed her daily crossword puzzles. She and Al were lifetime members of the ITAM #564 Lodge in Pittsfield.

Stella is survived by her daughter, Cheri Allison, and husband, Jim, of Becket, and their two children, Heather Allison, of Los Angeles, Calif., and Jim Allison, of San Francisco, Calif.; by her son, Bruce Ekholm, his wife Margaret, and their son, Alexander Ekholm of Falmouth; by a niece, Debra Coty-Baseler and her husband, Bradley Baseler; and a nephew, Dante Coty.

Stella was predeceased by her parents, Julia and Gabriel; her husband, Al; and her siblings, Dante DiMartino, Flora DiMartino, Ludi DiMartino and Gemma Marion.
