Walter J. Mikutowicz

1926 -- 2013 ADAMS Mr. Walter J. Mikutowicz, 87, of 29 1/2 Willow St. Adams, died Tuesday morning, October 15, 2013, at North Adams Commons. He was born in Westborough, MA on July 10, 1926, a son of the late John and Mary (Wojtaszek) Mikutowicz. He was raised by his grandparents, the late Henry and Sophia Wojtaszek of Adams, along with his siblings. He attended Adams schools and graduated from the former Adams High School in 1944. A veteran of World War II, he was inducted into the US Army following his graduation, and had served with the Medical Corps at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines for a year. He was Honorably Discharged in 1946. After returning from the war, he worked as a Letter Carrier for the US Postal Service, retiring in 1988 after 42 years of service. He was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams, where he served as a Lector and Usher for many years. He was a member of the St. Stanislaus Kostka Society, Adams Post 160 American Legion, Maple Grove Civic Club and the East Hoosac Athletic Association. He was an avid golfer and was a long time member of Forest Park Country Club. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Jacqueline V. Brooks. They were married on September 21, 1957 in Notre Dame des Sept Douleurs Church by Rt. Rev. Msgr. Joseph T. Smith. He is also survived by two sons, Michael Mikutowicz and his wife, Margie, of Adams; and James Mikutowicz and his wife, Janna, of Spartanburg, S.C.; His loving granddaughter, Sarah, of Adams; two step-granddaughters, Jessica of S.C., and Lizzie of Kansas; Step Great Grandsons Alex and Adam of S.C.; two sisters, Sophie Dabrowski and Helen Wilk, both of Adams; and several nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grandnephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph, in 1999. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 22nd, at 9:00 AM from the PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St. Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, Adams.
